The Big Chill
Lawrence Kasdan’s 1983 big-budget variation on John Sayles’s The Return of the Secaucus Seven finds a cluster of old college radicals–who have since gone on to sundry professions and various degrees of materialism–reuniting over the death of a friend. Both playful and thoughtful, the film represents Kasdan (Body Heat) at his most astute. The attractive cast meshes perfectly into a group of characters for which a former closeness is out of synch with their current lives, yet their warmth is enviable and inviting. The script may be a bit too glib, with many one-liners, but it is still a perfectly designed story with telling irony and no little passion. –Tom Keogh
Customer Review: Good film after all these years
Tom Brokaw’s new book, “Boom!” mentions “The Big Chill” and somehow I’ve missed seeing it over the years. I was pleasantly surprised to see then-young actors Tom Berenger, Kevin Kline, Glenn Close and William Hurt (among others) come together for a strong ensemble performance. These thirty-somethings gather over a weekend of a sad event and manage to explore their current and past lives in a way that seems surprisingly relevant. I wouldn’t say “The Big Chill” is timeless but I could imagine a group of my own friends having some of the same conversations today. If there’s not a whole lot of “action” in “The Big Chill” it makes up for it in insight. The soundtrack is a great addition but it is really the fine acting that carries the film and it’s great to see so many up and coming stars. “The Big Chill” is worth a look.
Customer Review: A strong ensemble cast
Everyone in the cast does a good job in this film, particularly Kevin Kline and Glenn Close as the couple who host a group of old friends for several nights after the death of another friend. I had seen it years ago, then just again today and, though one might hear some whining now and then, it’s not irritating. The only thing I find intrusive on occasion is the soundtrack, which has great songs but tends to interrupt the narrative instead of to advance it.

Customer Review: The best for fast and healthy
This is the best quick and healthy cookbook I own. Between my husband’s and my picky eating habits, it’s hard to find meals that we’ll both eat, but this book is full of a bunch of good recipes. I also appreciate the fact that they’re healthy and fast and calorie counts are included. The only gripes I have are that it’s divided by season (doesn’t help me much - I’d prefer categories) and there are a lot of fish recipes, which are too expensive for me to cook (and hubby doesn’t like fish too much anyway). This is a common issue in healthy cookbooks, though, since fish is obviously a staple in healthy cooking. Overall, I highly recommend this book!
Customer Review: some great recipes
I found some really good recipes in here. I’m on a cookbook kick right now with the holidays coming. I liked a lot of meals I’ve tried. If you liked this book, here’s another one you’ll like: THE FRANTIC WOMAN’S GUIDE TO FEEDING FAMILY AND FRIENDS. The latter book incorporates a lot of family stuff into the book. Both books are really great for today’s families.

Polder 898-90 Electronic Clock, Timer and Stopwatch in One
This hang-around-the-neck timer weighs in at a mere 1?? ounces, so you’ll barely know the timer is there until a soft staccato of beeps issues from its trim, slender body to signal the alarm. It counts up as well as down, measuring as much as 9 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds, and when you’re not using it as a timer, it functions as a clock. Reliable and comfortable, this is a timer you’ll use more than most others.
Customer Review: well-constructed timer
I work in a lab and use this timer to time experiments. I was pretty frustrated with the cheaply-made timers that lose track of the time when dropped or that have to have battery covers taped down and stuffed with aluminum foil to keep contact with the battery… This timer is much more durable, perhaps because it gets damaged less if you are wearing it around your neck. My only wish is that it was a double or quadruple timer so I could use the countdown function on several processes at once. I had to order a second one, and I will probably get more.
Customer Review: A handy and practical timer!
I have had this timer for over a year now. It is hard to find a timer that has buttons from 1 to zero so that you are not hitting the button over and over to get to the time you want. I use this primarily in the darkroom for that reason. It has an alarm that will go for one minute or until you hit the start/stop button. Another nice feature is that if I hit the start/stop button again, the timer begins again at the last time entered. It also has a count up timer and a clock. I like that I can hang it around my neck and it is not bulky or heavy. The magnet is a great feature, and my kitchen timer is on my Fridge so that it is not on the counter in the way while I am cooking. I recommend this timer for kitchen or darkroom use, you won’t be disappointed!

VISIOSONIC PCDJ Karaoke ( Windows )
PCDJ-KJ deliver the ultimate power of the Karaoke Machine to your PCDJ - Windows 2000/XP

Customer Review: GOOD STUFF
I’ve been using this product for 3+ years and it works extremely well! The tech support people don’t know how to talk to the regular customer and the manual has very little help but after going for advice the the PCDJ forum you can find out anything you need.

Customer Review: Stay away from Visiosonic!
I was recently in the market for a DJ software package so I could transition into MP3 dj-ing. I thought PCDJ was the best software on the market, clearly I was wrong. When the software was functioning (rarely), the features that first attracted me to it worked fine. Then, things went downhill from there. First off, PCDJ has a sound dropping issue. Whenever one would maximize or minimize a window, the sound would stutter or skip, producing a horrendous noise. Visiosonic has addressed the issue, but has yet to produce a fix. It also turns out Visiosonic has a ridiculous licensing/product activation system that will lock you out of the application by changing even the slightest settings to your system’s hardware (BIOS update or a video card driver update for example). I paid PCDJ and now I can’t use it. Tech support was an absolute joke; it took them one week to respond to my inquiry and finally unlocked my software. After the same thing happened again about a month later, I decided to forget about PCDJ all together. Think twice before purchasing any Visiosonic product, it’s just not worth the money. Sadly enough, the application lockout happened right before one of my DJ jobs, a very embarrassing situation indeed. Look at other software packages (heck, even iTunes is better than this) before stooping to this.

A Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America

A Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America
used

Customer Review: HORRIBLE!!!!
I hated this book. Needed it for a “multicultural awareness in education” class. It was boring, hard to follow, difficult to understand and written in some sort of “language” that only Einstein could comprehend.

Customer Review: Very Biased and Very Good
If one were to write a history of any nation exclusively from the perspective of minority groups would it be a fair, complete and accurate portrait of that nation’s story, character and culture? Probably not, but nonetheless you would have a penetrating look inside the world view of those who may get overlooked in the panoramic style of many history books. This is what you walk away with from Ronald Takaki’s wonderful book `A Different Mirror’.

The book is somewhat dated considering many newly published American history books include the tales of blacks, women, Indians, Jews and even gays but `A Different Mirror’ remains valuable because Takaki provides nuggets of information about the contributions of particular groups that aren’t well know but are important and deserve acknowledgement.

A downside to this book, and it’s serious, is that with the use of Shakespearean and other literary references, Takaki weaves a common thread of victimhood among all groups, suggesting that American society is nothing close to what it claims to be in the preamble of the Constitution. No society is perfect and though groups in America may have been exploited, America does not hold a monopoly on exploitation. Yet millions of minorities continue to rush into this nation for its distinct qualities that are rare and non-existent in other parts of the world. It would have enhanced Takaki’s goal, which was to tell the stories of minority groups, if he didn’t overlook the positive factors that compelled many to select this country.

If you want an introduction into American history this shouldn’t be the only book you read, but `A Different Mirror’ is enjoyable and highly recommended for anyone who wants to get a fuller picture of the American story.

The 2006-2011 World Outlook for Custom Non-Upholstered Wood Household Furniture Sold Directly to the Customer at Retail Excluding Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Vanities, and Related Cabinetwork
WHAT IS LATENT DEMAND AND THE P.I.E.?

The concept of latent demand is rather subtle. The term latent typically refers to something that is dormant, not observable, or not yet realized. Demand is the notion of an economic quantity that a target population or market requires under different assumptions of price, quality, and distribution, among other factors. Latent demand, therefore, is commonly defined by economists as the industry earnings of a market when that market becomes accessible and attractive to serve by competing firms. It is a measure, therefore, of potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) or total revenues (not profit) if a market is served in an efficient manner. It is typically expressed as the total revenues potentially extracted by firms. The ?market? is defined at a given level in the value chain. There can be latent demand at the retail level, at the wholesale level, the manufacturing level, and the raw materials level (the P.I.E. of higher levels of the value chain being always smaller than the P.I.E. of levels at lower levels of the same value chain, assuming all levels maintain minimum profitability).

The latent demand for custom non-upholstered wood household furniture sold directly to the customer at retail excluding kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and related cabinetwork is not actual or historic sales. Nor is latent demand future sales. In fact, latent demand can be lower either lower or higher than actual sales if a market is inefficient (i.e., not representative of relatively competitive levels). Inefficiencies arise from a number of factors, including the lack of international openness, cultural barriers to consumption, regulations, and cartel-like behavior on the part of firms. In general, however, latent demand is typically larger than actual sales in a country market.

For reasons discussed later, this report does not consider the notion of ?unit quantities?, only total latent revenues

Customer Review: Very cute!
This is such a cute mirror. When you press all the tails, it says what color and animal it is. If you press the frog, it plays a really cute song. It is so much better than a boring plain mirror. My foster daughter wasn’t interested in the mirror itself until I started playing with the other stuff on the mirror one day. She slowly started paying attention to it and after a few minutes she was babbling away at herself in the mirror. We play with this on the floor but it would be a great addition to a crib as well.

Customer Review: Nothing special
It doesn’t stand up very well on its own so don’t let the advertisement fool you. I ened up hooking it up to the back of a chair so my son could play with it. It is sometimes difficult to press the sound buttons too. My son who is eleven months now has only done it maybe three times on his own in the month we have had it. All in all though it does have cute sounds and is a good sized mirror.

The 2007-2012 Outlook for Custom Non-Upholstered Wood Household Furniture Sold Directly to the Customer at Retail Excluding Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Vanities, and Related Cabinetwork in Japan
This study covers the latent demand outlook for custom non-upholstered wood household furniture sold directly to the customer at retail excluding kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and related cabinetwork across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it?s prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-?-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for custom non-upholstered wood household furniture sold directly to the customer at retail excluding kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and related cabinetwork. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Mirror Pound a Ball

Mirror Pound a Ball
18 months & up. Big thrills for little ones who like banging, rolling and seeing their reflection. 12 1/4″ tall, pound for pound, its a great play value!

Customer Review: Good but not the Greatest
We bought this toy because we liked the cause & effect sequence it taught (if you push the ball through the hole you receive a viusl reward). We also liked that the colored balls matched up with the ball openings (Reinforces colors and matching). Our only dissappointment was the hammer. It takes a great deal of force to get the hammer to push the balls through the holes. If your child is sound sensitive (like mine) the hammer is an immediate turn off and becomes more of a stresser . Our remedy: we threw out the hammer and we have our child place both hands over each ball and push down. It’s still a bit hard to get the ball to drop down but with assitance our child loves it.

Customer Review: Love Hate Relationship
My son received this for his first birthday. Wow! He loved this toy. Big headache for mama, lots of fun for child.

However, all of a sudden he was putting EVERYTHING in the holes. He would then do one of two things, come running to me to fix it or try to put his hand as far in as he possibly could to get the item out.

It was fun while it lasted but I did give it to a friend’s baby so they can enjoy it for a few months also.

The combination of brevity and readability make Mirror for Humanity a perfect match for cultural anthropology courses that use readings or ethnographies along with a main text.

Customer Review: surprisingly terrible!
Well, this is just to say that I was surprised by how boring (and seemingly uninformative) this book is! The title really grabbed my attention and I love anthropology (especially cultural anthropology). However, for whatever reason, it just didn’t do anything for me. In fact, it did LESS than anything for me! (there’s another fifty dollars forever gone)…

Customer Review: gooses review
this book was boring. Evrything in here was either stuff you could look up in the dictonary and that you wouldn’t need to because the terms went by other words as well, or common sense that you would know by guessing. This book reads similar to books made in the era of black and white television whos goals were to dispense facts and not to entertain thus saving space and money. Because of this it sounds just like an instruction manual except for the fact that most instruction manuals arent this long. If you plan on reading this book all the way through good luck its a 282 page instruction manual. If I could have I would have given it a negative one star review

Mirror Images (Unrated)
Twin sisters Kaitlin and Shauna have nothing in common, except their gorgeous bodies and identical features. Kaitlin has a life most women dream of: a wealthy husband and beautiful home. Shauna is a wild stripper at a local bar. When Shauna leaves town suddenly, Kaitlin decides to take her sister’s place and soon becomes addicted to the dark side of Shauna’s life.
Customer Review: VIOLATES MOST PRINCIPLES OF GOOD CINEMA.
This film’s script tells a tale of identical twin sisters, played by Delia Sheppard, who have little to link them other than appearance, and of how one must pay for attempting to usurp her sister’s place when the latter disappears. Kaitlin, although unhappily married, has wed into wealth and resides in a mansion; meanwhile, her sister Shauna is a stripper in a sleazy bar who mysteriously tells Kaitlin she needs money with which to immediately leave town. Kaitlin impulsively takes Shauna’s place during the dark hours and soon discovers that everything is not quite all right with her sister’s life style, which includes sexual and drug excess. While she more or less frolics, complications abound, including murder, and Kaitlin becomes increasingly aware that her nocturnal impersonation does not provide compensation for the difficulties with which she must deal. This scenario wobbles about as it is merely an interstice for the doffing of garments by Sheppard and others preparatory to thrashing about in various sexual liaisons, one or two of which might possibly have something to do with the plot, such as it is. There is nothing fresh here as one illogical scene follows upon the other far too slowly, to the viewer’s discomfort, with the abysmally poor dialogue and tiresome exposure of flesh merely resulting in an example of softcore pornography, and that devoid of any real eroticism or any other purpose.
Customer Review: Sexy psychological drama
One of director Hippolyte’s better direct-to-video (or is it Cinemax After Dark?) features, concerning a sexy woman (Delia Shepperd) and her innocent twin. The twin decides to take a walk on the wild side, which leads to you-know-what. Decent performances and an attractive cast make this film rather enjoyable. Very hot sex scene with Shepperd and Nels Van Patten is an added bonus.

It was fun while it lasted but I did give it to a friend’s baby so they can enjoy it for a few months also.
Customer Review: Frustrating!!!
My son received this as a gift, otherwise I would have chucked it out the window the 100th time he got his hand or binky stuck in it. As other parents have noted, kids like putting all kinds of things in this toy, not just the balls. I reached my wits end with this thing when my boy put a dozen crayons into this thing, then started crying to get them out. Of course they’d all gotten worked down into the middle of the thing, and I literally had to get a set of tweezers/tongs to try to extract them. If I had realized how many crying tantrums this thing was going to cause, I would have quickly shoved it aside in a closet & brought it out only when the person who gave it to us came over. Give this one a pass, check out other models. There are better designed ones out there that promote the same skills. If I had to do it over again, I’d get one of the Plan Toys pound-a-ball, specifically the Miracle Pounding toy, where the balls stay IN the toy, and don’t roll under the chair, couch, etc. and there isn’t any room for other things to get permanently stuck!

The Mirror Has Two Faces
Barbra Streisand’s self-absorbed remake of a 1958 French film stars Jeff Bridges as a college professor tired of sexual politics. He makes a deal with a dowdy colleague (Streisand) that they provide companionship for one another, with no thought of getting into bed. She agrees but soon becomes frustrated, the agreement only reinforcing her unfulfilled desire to have a complete relationship with a man. Mimi Rogers is on hand as Babs’s striking sister, and Lauren Bacall received an Oscar nomination for her role as the heroine’s selfish mother. The film is OK, but it becomes an irritating vanity piece for Streisand (who directed as well as stars). Her character constantly gazes upon her own reflection and is told at least a dozen times, one way or another, just how attractive she is. One wants to shout out, we get it already–you’re pretty! The DVD release presents the film in both widescreen and pan and scan versions, plus a Dolby soundtrack. –Tom Keogh
Customer Review: Good chick flick
One of my favorite Barbra movies! I love to see romance alive in New York City. And it’s not bad looking at Jeff Bridges. The movie may not be totally beliveable - - BUT who cares?!
Customer Review: Bah humbug
I don’t care what some of the other reviews on here say, this was a great film filled with joy and laughter. It was genuine, sort of honest and had all sorts of heart. It is, by all definitions, a chick flick - and a damn good one!

Alex SHAVING IN THE TUB

Alex SHAVING IN THE TUB
SHAVING IN THE TUB How about lathering up for a nice shave? Shaving set comes with a 7 oz. can of Foaming Body Soap, plastic play razor, shaving brush, comb and an unbreakable, child-safe mirror. It’s good clean fun! Suitable for Ages: 3+

Customer Review: very fun bathtub toy for kids!
This is a great product for young kids who love to pretend.

Shaving like mom or dad is facinating for them and makes bathtime a favorite time for play. As a bonus the “shaving cream” can be used as a body soap or shampoo so playtime is cleantime as well. Moms and dads love that!

Customer Review: stubble
Got this for my grandson. Now he can pretend to shave without going for the real razors.

The Notebook
Based on the best selling novel by Nicholas Sparks (”A Walk To Remember”, “Message In A Bottle”), “The Notebook” is the story of Noah and Allie, teenage lovers torn apart by WWII and Allie’s parents’ demands to marry a respectable lawyer. After 14 years apart, they meet again and rekindle their true love. Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, and Gena Rowlands. The soundtrack is a propelling force. In addition to classic WWII era pieces, Aaron Zigman’s score suites enhance the record with beautifully dramatic themes. Score performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony.
Customer Review: Touching
There isn’t much I can say about this beautiful movie, except that it was so touching! It say’s go for the “true love”, settle for nothing else no matter what may be in store, because love that is “true” and as beautiful as their’s was, is a rare thing! I absolutely loved the ending. I also loved that a movie CAN be truly wonderful, beautiful and touching WITHOUT grafic “sex scenes!” Also sadly a rare thing in movies today. Ever seen “Hanover Street?” Equally beautiful. No SEX scenes either! Angelfish
Customer Review: Pays music a complement. I love the classical pieces!
I do not have the soundtrack to The Notebook, but I do have the movie itself. Having said that, every song is wonderful. Some music carries with it, a wealth of emotion and a sense of timelessness. I love all of the classical pieces , perhaps the best, in this particular movie. Classical has never been my speed when it comes down to music, but something about this movie’s classical masterpieces struck a chord in me…made me smile and maybe even sniffle a bit. If you are a fan of the movie, I’m sure you would love its soundtrack too. Music like this is ideal for a romantic evening or just for pleasure listening. You don’t know if you’ll like something until you give it a chance! So give this a chance!!

Clock
Sometimes simplicity can be heartbreaking. So it is with The Clock, a wonderfully simple love story that stands as one of the gems of the MGM golden years. It should be noted right off that this 1945 film is not a musical, despite a talent roster led by the maestro of MGM musicals, producer Arthur Freed. Rather, it’s a straight, black and white romance about a soldier (Robert Walker) with a two-day pass in unfamiliar, overwhelming New York City. He meets an office worker (Judy Garland), and in the glow of the city and each other, they fall in love. Underlying the sweetness of the romance is the time limit of the soldier’s leave, after which he will be sent overseas; the clock brings an urgency to the action, especially after the lovers lose each other in the crush of a subway. Veteran character actor James Gleason provides lovely support, as does his real-life wife, Lucile. Director Vincente Minnelli brought his designer’s eye to the film, turning (by his own avowed intention) New York City itself into the third main character in the drama. It’s not difficult to guess the reason for the film’s strong emotional tug, or for Judy Garland’s radiance; Minnelli had fallen in love with Garland during the making of Meet Me in St. Louis a year earlier, and they would marry after filming The Clock. She was never lovelier than in these two pictures. –Robert Horton
